| THE MISSION of Earthdance: is to promote peace by joining participants worldwide in a synchronized Prayer For Peace and to support humanitarian causes through the global language of music and dance. |
| THE EARTHDANCE STORY Founded in 1997, Earthdance - The Global Festival for Peace has grown to become the world's largest simultaneous dance music event. The highlight of the Earthdance event is a simultaneous dance-floor link up, when every event across the world plays the 4- minute Prayer for Peace track. Morning in the Australian rainforest, midnight in London, and sunrise over the Himalayas, the Prayer for Peace is a profound and powerful moment that unifies our intentions for World peace and healing. Equipped with only a fax machine, a telephone and a strong vision, Earthdance founder, Chris Deckker, organized 18 cities from his home in London in the fall of 1997. After moving to California in 1999, he formalized Earthdance as a California 501{c} 3 non- profit entity. Each year Earthdance has continued to attract new participating cities, each self-funded and fueled by grassroots enthusiasm. The infectious groove spread from 18 participating cities in 1997 to 150 participating cities in 2004. Our community is expected to top over 200 cities in 2005. Earthdance requires any promoter wishing to promote an Earthdance party to agree to the following conditions: • To play the Prayer for Peace track at the appropriate time (6pm in WI) • To select a local charity and give them presence at the event • To give the chosen charity 50% the event profits (100% in Oshkosh) • Use the Earthdance logo on materials • Put http://www.earthdance.org link on materials and websites • To self-fund the event It is our goal is to financially support international earthdance events in the future. A TRULY GLOBAL EVENT On Saturday September 17th, 2005, over 150 cities in 50 countries will once again unite as one global dance floor in support of global peace and humanitarian aims. Earthdance has been described by the music industry as the “Dance Aid” for the new millennium. The event brings people from all races and cultures, and raises awareness and funds for many select causes. Initially uniting the electronica genre, Earthdance now encourages promoters to incorporate music and entertainment that is culturally inclusive. The hub event in Laytonville, California features 5 stages of entertainment uniting jam- band, world, conscious lyricism, electronica, reggae and folk. One of our 2005 initiatives is to translate the Prayer for Peace into the native language of each Earthdance event. |
